Dominican University will host a one-week summer environmental science residence camp for 20 high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. Daily sessions will feature workshops on global climate change, climate change in Rockland County, effects of climate change on biodiversity, and local biodiversity in the fields of botany, entomology, ornithology, and micro-invertebrates. Experts in different facets of environmental science will lead students on field trips and provide students with time to explore and document their experiences. Examples of off- campus trips will include a canoe trip in the Iona Island Marsh led by NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, a visit to Pfizer research labs at the Botanical Gardens, and an excursion to MEVO organic farm and beekeeping in Mahwah, NJ.
